Professor Dr. Atuğ completed his fellowship in Robotic Urologic Surgery at the Tulane University Health Sciences Center, Minimally Invasive Urologic Surgery Department, between 2004 and 2006. This department is regarded as one of the leading fellowship providers in the United States in advanced robotic and minimally invasive urology. During this period, he collaborated with notable figures in the field, including Associate Professor Eric Castle(currently at Mayo Clinic Rochester), Professor Dr. Raju Thomas (department head), and Professor Dr. Rodney Davis.
His outstanding performance earned him formal recognition from the Tulane University Department of Urology for his dedicated contributions to a center widely known for pioneering robotic surgeries in the United States, particularly in robotic prostate, bladder, and kidney procedures. In 2006, Professor Dr. Atuğ was honored with “The Most Successful Urologist of the Year” award at the Faculty of Medicine ceremony.
After completing his fellowship, he continued his academic advancement at the University of California, Irvine – Department of Urology, working with Professor Dr. Thomas Ahlering, one of the foremost authorities in robotic radical prostatectomy. Professor Dr. Atuğ contributed chapters as a guest author to leading U.S. textbooks in robotic urology, further enhancing his international academic reputation.
He completed his specialty in urology at Marmara University (1994–1999), earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Dicle University Faculty of Medicine (1991), and graduated from Ankara Atatürk Anatolian High School (1984).
